The list is endless.
They all beat "Sid" to celebrity status by a good few years.
I don't think "Sid" EVER had celebrity status, more of an "Unpleasant,constantly stoned,total prat,yobbo" status.
In fact snuffing it was probably the best career move he ever made.

I refer you to the recently released DVD documentary on the Sex Pistols' Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols, produced by Eagle Vision (formerly Eagle Rock Entertainment) as part of the Classic Albums series. It states that Chris Spedding did not play a single solitary note on the entire album. Spedding's only involvement was producing an early demo with the band.

Also... Malcolm McLaren's role in the Sex Pistols' existence has been greatly exaggerated by McLaren himself. Steve Jones and Paul Cook had already been playing together and had met both Glen Matlock (original Pistols bassist) and Johnny Rotten at McLaren's clothing shop - Matlock worked there and Rotten used to hang out there sometimes.

3. He was loser drug addict

4. He murdered his girlfriend

5. Then he killed himself in jail.

I dont believe anyone was insinuating that just because he was a drug addict he was a bad musician. The difference here is, The Beatles, Hendrix, were all capable of making good music while smashed off their rockers. And that wasn't their image either. They were about their music. W/ Sid, he just took drugs because thats about all he could do.

I will say however NeverMind the Bollocks is a great album.
