Signature basses

I have multiple signature basses. It's not that I dislike any of the bassists, but I didn't get any of them because of who's name is on it. The 6 string is a John Patitucci. There's a Geddy Lee jazz bass. The Fender P is a heavily modded Roger Waters. The Reverend bass is a Michelle Ndegeocello. I think all are great players, but I wouldn't say any of them are my favorite or strongest influence.
If this guy's not too full of himself to play a sig instrument, why should any of us be?
I have a mess of Geddy Jazzes, but of course I love his work.
I also have a Nate Mendel P bass... but I care so little about Nate Mendel (one of these days I need to look up who he plays for and why exactly he deserves a sig bass) that I pulled it apart and turned it into one of my main gig basses ... and then the rest of the pieces were cast to the winds lol.

I’m still waiting for an Andy McCluskey signature bass that comes stock with the stings reversed.
I own a Bruce Thomas Profile P bass. I honestly didn’t know who he was when I first heard of the bass. I have always liked Elvis Costello though. I bought the bass as it ticked everything on my spec list. I don’t care who designed it.
My main player is a Lakland Darryl Jones 4.
I own no music by the rolling stones. Or Miles Davis, shockingly.
Nothing particularly against them, just...never got around to it.

I have a Yamaha BB Peter Hook, and I probably know one or two tunes from him. Not more.
But the bass is excellent.
It was built as a fusion between his original Yamaha bass, and the new BB active bass.
Super bright strings, he uses a lot of treble and has that signature sound.
I use it in a completely opposite setup. Flatwound strings, and different EQ. It's perfect for what I like, but opposite for what it was built for.
I found the bass by chance, in a store, played it and bought it right there.

I have a Sire Marcus Miller 5 and admire his talent and work, but He isn’t my fav player. I don’t try to play or sound like Marcus.
My Squier CV60’s P is often referred to as the poor man’s Pino. It has the look and the tone, and I think Pino is great. But I didn’t buy it because of Pino. I just wanted a good PBass that was comfortable in my hands for the least amount of $.
The Fender US Geddy Lee I owned was the best 70’s Jazz Bass I ever encountered . Build quality rivaled custom shop. I’m certainly no Geddy Lee or Rush fan.
The bass that replaced my Geddy Lee when I switched to playing mainly 5 string is another signature model. My Sandberg Ida Nielsen 5. I’m a huge Prince fan but I bought this bass simply because of the looks, feel, sound, and specs. I was actually in that store to buy my 2nd StingRay5 Special and saw bought this instead.
My one confession is the reason I prefer and play StingRay style basses is because of Louis Johnson, Bernard Edwards, Paul S Denman, Nate Watts, Allen McGrier , and Oscar Alston. But none of these players have a signature model. It wouldn’t matter if they did.
Funny thing is one of my other main bass influences and favorite artist is Fred Hammond. He does have a signature Bass Mods model. I’ve had opportunity to purchase one on several occasions but always decline. His music is the reason I switched to 5 string.
The basses I own are certainly influenced by my favorite players but they don’t have to be signature models.

But to your original question, I own one the EBMM Tim Commerford long scale passive basses. It is without any question the best mass-produced bass I have ever owned (Fenders, Lakland, Gibson, MM). I own 1 RAtM cd and all the Audioslave cds, but Commerford is not all that much an influence on me.
Being a massive John entwistle fan, I HAD to grab a B2... It was within months of the C&D from Warwick I made the order too... Or it would have been a B1.
However I'm a 5 player and it's just not my main bass.

I had a Sabre in the late '80s I got from Knut Koupee in Minneapolis that was cantaloupe coloured that I figure must be worth a fortune if it still exists...I have never seen another MM product with THAT finish...couldn't get rid of it fast enough...pretty sure I traded it towards a refin Gibson Tbird that Tommy Stinson was trying to unload which I then parlayed into a early serial number RICH Eagle that absolutely thundered...what were we talking about? Ah yeah, signature basses. I now have a Tony Franklin bass that I got because honestly, it had every feature a custom build would've. I think Mr Franklin is a fantastic dude, beautiful human and I really don't own a single thing he's played on...sally forth, carry on and much love~
Hmmm... Over the years I've had 3 Hellborgs, 2 Geddys, a Jaco and a Will Lee. All four are very different and excellent players in their own right, but truth be told, I've only really been influenced by the first three guys - so it's kind of ironic that I by far prefer the fourth guy's axe.

I own a Stu Hamm Urge bass but never been a fan of his work, also own a Marcus Miller CIJ and I dig his work, but prior to being so much into slap.
