Stop the madness! Try'em once!My Pal @eriky4003 has been trying to get me to try the Marcus Miller Dunlop's but I haven't had a chance yet.![]()
For me, only Dunlop Marcus Miller Set sound awesome on any Jazz bass.As opposed to standard sets, or making your own gauge mix. (Or making your own if you have the equipment). Elaborate in the comments, and tell us what types you l8ke.
Marcus Miller signature set of the Fat Beams had the gauges 45-65-80-105. DR doesn't offer that as a factory set anymore.I said sometimes. I started using DR FatBeams years ago when they were still the Marcus Miller FatBeams. Since he moved on to Dunlop, I'm still using the same DR strings, but now the boxes just say FatBeams without his pic. So, I guess I used to use a signature set?
Ah - I totally missed that detail! I've been using 45-65-85-105 forever so never made that connection. Thanks for the correction!Marcus Miller signature set of the Fat Beams had the gauges 45-65-80-105. DR doesn't offer that as a factory set anymore.
I have to say... no, I don't. Honestly, I don't see - or hear- any reason to. And, TBH? The only signature flatwounds I'm aware of, are the Steve Harris Roto SH77 Flats; and Dogal's "Jonas Hellborg" and "Jaco (Pastorius) Carbonsteel" strings. I like - and use - Roto RS77s, but I won't use the SH77s. For one, I don't need flats that heavy; and, as a lifelong fan of the West Bromwich Albion soccer club, I refuse to put strings with his favorite team (West Ham United) colors on them. I do use Dogal's Jaco Carbonsteel Flats, though. And, I have a set of the Jonas Hellborg Flats, but... I don't have a bass I really want to put those ridiculously expensive strings on, at the moment... The vast majority of signature strings are rounds, and I never play rounds if I can help it. Only one of my 27 basses wears rounds (TIJR324 Jazz Rounds); and then, only because that bass sounds gawdawful with any other strings on it.As opposed to standard sets, or making your own gauge mix.
