silent practicing

thanks for your help guys. I was going to go with the pedal idea but i remembered I have a cheap effects processor that Im going to try out as soon as my new studio cans come in the mail.

I like the mixing board idea. if the processor disappoints me I think I'll grab one of those.
 
I also have a B*hringer Eurorack 4 channel mixer direct into my pc. It actually sounds surprisingly warm. I use the phones out from the pc so I can play along with mp3's to learn tunes.

Also, I use my Zoom B2 into the board at times. For practicing, the B2 is excellent since it has modeling/effects/tuner. Plus the drum machine is useful for getting timing down with different beats or just a straight up metronome if you prefer that.
