Silly Question (Maybe)

http://www.daddario.com/upload/tension_chart_13934.pdf

Have a butch at the D'addario string tension guide, this might help you out? D'Addario sell singles so you can cut and change for a set you want. Unfortunately it only goes down to about .145 which may be still a *little* too floppy for low A, and either way there will DEFINITELY be some nut mods involved for the string gauges you may be dealing with to achieve the tuning.

Warwick also has the 'Dark Lord' string set which has a .175 and a .135, the .175 might actually be too high for A though? Could maybe tune it up to G and access your A there, or maybe just deal with it somehow. That's all I could come up with!

Hey XdunstanX,

I have played in drop A in the past on a 4 string and i used 1.35 gague as well. I think looking into some better tuners will help things stay in tune better.

Now, it's still going to sound fairly muddy and wobbly, but i guess that's the nature of the beast...

I also found that playing closer to the bridge will help articulate notes a bit better and give them more deffinition.

Hope it helps.
