Simple free video recording software?

I've got to record an audition video on Saturday, for my son. It doesn't have to be be a pro studio production. I've got a good audio signal chain, and can either use the computer's built in camera or a borrowed USB-2 video camera. What I lack is software for my Windows 8.1 computer. Any suggestions?

Although it does a lot more than just edit video blender.org has video editing capability and is free/open source.
I didn't want to learn another piece of software so I bought Adobe Premiere Pro.
