simplified pickup idea...opinions

ok well see this was one of thoose idea that made more sense before i really thought about it... dont you just love thoose?

here it goes... so pickups (in a nut shell) consist of magnetic poles wraped in coper wire which is connected to a jack ,if thats wrong just stop reading and a appologize for wasting ur time, ok so instead of going thru the trouble of wrap a jillion turns of wire couldnt you by a solid copper rod(which they do have) couldnt you drill holes in a section of one fit the magnets into 'em solder wires onto the end and wire it to a jack

i know this isnt the greatest idea but would it work ?

It is the winding that will create the magnetic field. The magnets respond to the vibrating strings and alter the current in the magnetic field.

If you are able to direct the current through the Fermi Sea of electrons then you can have a pickup. You will also have a Nobel Prize in Physics.
 
I have always wondered if you can just do one wind around the magnets and have the rest of the winds located in another place (say the control cavity). This way you could take make a pickup without taking the wire off the coil that it comes one. Logistically speaking, I have no idea if this would work.

Considering basic induction, the electromagnetic property that serves to create/destroy current in a coil, it is required that the coils go around the magnet to allow a more defined current. Through the forces of magnetism combined with its effect on electricity a simple oscillating current is produced. This being said if you contain an empty set of coils (apart from the inducing coils around the pole) you are likely to create an inductor, which would serve to modify the sound by changing the overall resistance of the wire thus affecting the current oscillations created.

The EMF or voltage induced in a coil is a function of the amount of flux change through the coil per unit time (basically how much the magnetic field is changing) multiplied by the number of turns in the coil.

"For the common but special case of a coil of wire, composed of N loops with the same area, Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction states that

E = -N (dΦB/dt)

where
E is the electromotive force (emf) in volts
N is the number of turns of wire
ΦB is the magnetic flux in webers through a single loop." (Wikipedia)

You could have a 1 turn pickup instead of the 8000 turns usually used, but you'll need a preamp with something like 130 dbs of boost more than usual.

Clearly at this point signal to noise ratio is also extremely badly affected.
