Single Cut Bass Build Idea - Help Needed

I'm in the process of designing a bass and I have an idea that I'm not sure if it'll work or not.

The idea is to build a single cut bass, but rather than having the neck bolt on to the upper bout and the body, my idea was to leave a small gap between the neck and the body and have it bolt to the body at the usual end of the neck spot.

I can't think of any reasons why this shouldn't work as it's essentially a double cut bass with the upper bout acting as a single cut.

So, your main reason to do this is the looks, right? Because you'll have no advantages usually associated with singlecut designs, like stiffer neck (because of shorter "free" part)

I'm not quite sure I understand, but if you mean what I think you mean wouldn't that extend the neck a long way away? As in you would need to reach a long way for fret 1.

Naw, he just means having the upper horn continue to curve down towards the top of the neck, and with a straight bottom edge close to the top line of the neck, so it "looks" like a single cut. I guess there's no reason you couldn't do it. You'd be adding weight and getting no benefit (other than being able to use a conventional bolt-on neck).

I've always found the look of boutique single cut basses to be really inspiring, so I figured I try my hand at designing and building my own.

The neck is going to be laminated with strips of carbon fiber, so I'm not worried about neck stiffness.

In terms of the extra weight, I'm debating on either chambering the upper bout or using it as the control cavity.
