Single Cut Build

I see others doing build logs... figured I would join in the fun

Here is the design stage of the bass and how I do it.

I start off with thick poster paper, pencil, scissors, and a tape measure.

I then trace out a generic shape of a bass I have hanging around.

Since I want a 36" scale bass, I go ahead and place the 12th fret and bridge lines.

I add neck lines, put in the pickups, and figure out where I want the cut-aways. This bass is going to be a single cut.

With a lot of lead and eraser used, I shape the left (upper) side of the body.

Then I shape the the right (lower) side and, wah-lah, I have a finished body

The neck lines arent correct, but the overall shape of the body is done. Tonight when I work out the string width at the nut and bridge, I will build a poster board neck with the correct dimensions. The I will be able to finalize the neck pocket body lines in terms of how they relate to a proper neck.

The bass is going to have a wooden bridge and string through body. There won't be any visible knobs and there will be wooden pickup covers.
