Single gold B string

I’m not generally a fan of gold strings, but a few years back I was given a free set which I decided to check out and on one of my bases. I think they work rather well. However, it was a four string set and it’s a five string base. I’ve looked around and can’t seem to find anyone that sells a single Gold B string. Just figured I’d consult the folks here to see if anybody might have some insight?

Do you know what specific brand of the 4-string set you have? Are we talking about actual gold-plated strings, or just gold in color?

Here are the Gold and Unique Gold (the Maxiflex Gold apparently only come in 4-string) single low B strings currently available from Optima:

That doesn't really answer my question however, compared to what?

Ok, so they are compared to Stainless Steel, but that is just 1 guy, 1 guy's setup and 1 guy's bass.

And I might be wrong but the Gold string sample sounds a bit louder, so hard to judge, if it is just because it is slightly louder, or they really have got more presence and definition.

I'd like more opinions from people who tried them personally.

Another question is if they last any longer than normal strings, or you would have to buy a new set every other month?

Understood. But your first question was "what does gold strings sound like" so there's a couple vids of what gold strings sound like. As far as what others think, sound, tone etc is very subjective. What I think is fat ,solid tone, others may perceive as muddy. Or nice top end with some bite, others may think tinny and weak. I've always found it best to find out for myself. Maybe you should pick up a set and see if they work for you.
