Singles or humcancellings for slap bass?

Hello everyone,

Soon, I will order a Sadowsky UV 70 Jazz Bass. And I will use that bass only for slapping.

Now the problem is that I am not sure about the pickups.

I have searched inside the forum and some people say that the single-coils are better for slapping and other say that humcancelling are better for slapping.

Single-coils or humcancelling for slap bass?

Can you help me with that please?

It is honestly what your prefer. I would suggest being able to play both before buying the bass, and then deciding which works for you.

Depends on what you like. You want to sound like Marcus (and a zillion other guys) then 2 single-coil J type p'ups is the ticket.
I just bought a Sadowsky 5 from a gentleman on the TB classifieds, and it will be coming with two humbuckers - which I know sound very cool (and a bit different) for slap since I have a Warmoth with this arrangement (that I will now be selling!)

It really depends on what you want to sound like - but I wouldn't worry about them not being hum-cancelling - you'll likely be playing with both p'ups on when slapping, so you won't need to worry about hum.

I bought a set Aguilar AG-4J-HC (not installed yet). I think it is the best solution if you really want a authentic single coil sound, and no hum. Unlike humcancelling "stack coils" this Aguilars are "split coil" pups, sounds really like singles, guys who use it say that. Stack singles had some buckers dinamics features, have less attack and compress the sound a little.. Anyway, it is a matter of your preferences.
