Sire Bass Question

I purchased the Marcus Miller Sire V7 5 string in Swamp Ash a few days ago and got it today. It came in pretty nice case. I looked it over and the quality is pretty good. I understand that this is supposed to be an entry level bass but I have a question. If an beginner bassist buys this bass not knowing all the nuances of tone, feel, action and all the things that more seasoned bass players look for in a bass, aren't they going to be in a world of let down for the rest of their career going to music store to music store wondering why more expensive and well known brands that cost a helluva lot more and sound like crap?

I'm just thinking of the youngins here. When I started playing I would visit music stores and lust over basses I couldn't afford and play basses I dreamt of one day owning. Everything after playing this bass is going to suck. Probably until you start getting into the $2k plus range.

Every once in a while I browse GC or SA and walk out disappointed with their latest stock of basses. I'm fortunate to live in the same city as The Bass Place so I'll pop in there and plug in and jones for a new bass. This bass just killed that dream.



Marcus Miller killed the dream! This bass is badass.

The more expensive basses won't necessarily "sound like crap" compared to the Sire, but whether they sound enough better to justify the huge difference in price, now that is going to be interesting to watch develop...

...and, nice bass! :thumbsup:

Learning that a bass does not have to cost a mint to be excellent is just part of growing up musically. I have said several times that the biggest mistake in my bass journey was getting hung up on gear. I truly believe that $400 on lessons would have done me far more good than the thousands I spent of basses since 1985.

Now for a massive contradiction: I will buy a Sire before the year is up because I love a good Jazz, and the prices on these Sires are just too good to pass up!

Marcus Miller is trying to give them his experience where a kid figures out that a good Jazz Bass is the ticket!

Speaking of massive contradictions, this traditional design don't need quilt or flame or hippie sammich guy is owned by the looks of this beauty ! I have always been intrigued by the double MM config. Not only that but I might be able to afford it, and be tempted by all the good feedback.
These Sires may just turn out to be the new "U.S. Peavey" of bargains.

Good morning. I live in Surprise, Az, just a few minutes from Glendale. I'm in the process of selling my 6 string bass and looking to buy the V7 5. I'm probably going to sell mine for $1500 and buy the Sire bass for $599.00!!! I wish I could play it first before I make the purchase!!!

I am selling mine for $550. I installed strap locks and Marcus Miller strings. I also have chrome knobs that Sire sent along with my bass because I pre-ordered it. Mine is ash just like the one pictured above.
