Sire Marcus Miller P6 4 question

Thoughts on the purpose of the "tone" control knob. It already has bass, treble and mids. Not sure how much extra this would add since you already have a 3 band eq on board. I do understand what a tone knob does from playing guitar for 40yrs, but in this configuration it just got me thinking.
Thoughts?

Controls:1 x stacked volume/tone, 1 x blend, 1 x stacked treble/middle, 1 x bass (push/pull passive)

With an active preamp I always like having a passive tone control. It provides a different function than the active treble, bass and mid controls. You can get a lot more tonal variation, and if you're used to passive basses it is a familiar tool to have. I think Sadowsky realized the value of a tone control at some point and incorporated it as an option in their preamps.
