Sire V3 gen2 - Rolled fretboard edges?

Hi, I recently bought Sire V3 gen2 bass and it doesn't seem to have rolled fretboard edges. I absolutely can't find any info or proper photo of other V3 gen 2 to confirm whether these really don't have this feature anymore or if it's just mine.

If you own this bass would you mind confirming whether yours have the rolled edges? Could you share a close up?

See mine and let me know if that looks like roled edges.

that doesn't look rolled to me and yes, they are supposed to. that looks like a Gen 1. Part of the reason why I sold my Gen 1 was to later pick up either a V3 or V7 with the improvements and rolled fretboard edges.
this is the picture as provided by Sire for the V3 Gen 2. Send that back.

I don't have a picture handy, but my 2nd Gen V3 has really nicely rolled fret ends. When I ordered it in December 2019 I was supposed to get a 2nd Gen, but received a 1st Gen. It was still a great instrument for the money, but I returned it and got the 2nd Gen I paid for. It's not a huge deal, but it's definitely more refined.

Thanks guys, the weird thing is that pick-ups, battery cover and printed serial number on the headstock are definitely gen 2 so I have no idea how is it that this feature is not included. Just defective piece I guess where QA overlooked it.

The frets on the 1st Gen I got were still quite good, but it was worth the time for me to exchange it for the 2nd Gen. The rolled edges are really comfortable. Definitely makes it feel like a far more expensive instrument.

Thanks. If I may another question. Did you bass have that 2nd generation sticker on the pickguard? Because mine didn't. Not that it matter, I hate stickers on guitars but everywhere I saw they always ship it with that sticker but kind didn't have it making me think my piece was really some mismatch of things.

Small world. That's exactly how I concluded that I had the 1st Gen. Mine also had everything else that was supposed to be 2nd Gen except the rolled edges and the 2nd Gen sticker. Chicago Music Exchange gladly swapped it out.

IME, at any price: it's more comfortable and affects the overall feel. for me: it 'enhances' the playing experience, on any ax, at any price. but on an otherwise great feeling ax: you may have to learn how to roll your own.

in this case = getting the seller to make it right seems like an advantage you have! good luck getting the rolled fingerboard edges your deserve!!

It sure did. I bought mine right as the 2nd gens first arrived at Chicago Music Exchange. Had I not been aware of the fret board improvements I would have been completely satisfied with the 1st Gen. As good as it was, I'm definitely glad that I swapped it for the 2nd Gen. Like JRA said, the feel of the neck really is much better. It gives the instrument a refined feel. Hope that helps.

Hey guys, just to give this an ending: I spoke with Andertons music and they opened several boxes with the same model and confirmed that the whole badge they have, have this issue. I ordered Mahony colour version and all of them in their store had that problem however their V3s in sunburst colour are fine so they are swapping it on Monday. Thanks for all the help, this was my first post and you guys really made me realize that my model is not at all as it should be.

That's awesome that they're willing to stand behind what they sell. I was similarly confused when I received mine. I think you'll be glad that you got exactly what you wanted. My V3 has been incredibly stable and really is an awful lot of Bass for not much money. Definitely post again when you get your new bass.

that's awesome, glad you'll be getting the bass you paid for. Makes you wonder though how many people have already bought the Mahogany finish and are unaware they're supposed to be getting ones with the rolled fretboard. It's not simply a case of a cosmetic improvement either but one that changes the feel of the neck, it's a big plus in my books.

I received the tobacco sunburst version today and oh my god that neck is awesome. Immediately when I opened the box and saw it through that white polystyrene fabric I started laughing because how obvious the difference was. This neck actually seems much thinner and the rolled edges are exactly as I imagined them to be. I also think the wood is darker as it's supposed to be ebony so I think the previous one was maybe rosewood but I'm not sure about that.

I'm so glad I got it exchanged. This bass feels completely different to play. It's such a huge improvement. Attached is a picture of the new neck so anyone can compare with my original post.

Sorry for necro-posting. I am digging the internet to find how to roll the edges on my own. I cannot find a good guidance how to make it to a level we see on Sire basses. All i saw was about like scraping the edge with a screwdriver or a knife, that looks lame and not comparable to Sire.

I have a lot of fine Fender basses which i don’t want to pick up after buying a Sire. I do not want to replace them with Sire, i just want to make rolled edges…

got it, you're really close = it's the luthiers --- right around the corner!

i "rolled" mine with sandpaper on a block, but before you try the same: please post in luthier's corner with pics, and ask the experts what you should/could do with your particular instrument(s). my axes are fretless = 20-24 fewer 'issues' to deal with when rolling that playing edge!

luthier's corner is the quickest way to get the advice you need! start a thread, provide picks, good luck!
