I got my First Generation V7 in a trade around November last year with Stingray69. I let go of my Ibanez TMB605, a very nice bass, but I was happy to get my hands on a decent active Jazz at a low cost. I always liked the bass, but I am prejudiced against complicated preamps, and I figured I needed a better bass like with a two band preamp. I got a SB5000, and it is a great bass, but my Sire has just grown on me. I got used to the preamp, and although the neck is chunky, it is comfortable in a Stingray 5 sort of way. To be honest, if I only had my Sire V7 and my Pedulla, I would be happy. I know I am always posting and lusting over expensive basses, but I had a great time this evening practicing minor scales and classic Stevie Wonder (off topic, I heard on Sirius radio that Mr. Wonder is on dialysis.) I was playing my Sire with rounds and my Peavey Fury with Cobalt Flats, having a Ball! Both of those basses play and sound perfect!:bassist:

Some basses are a slow burn.
I brought home a Stingray about a year ago and really had trouble gelling with it.
But it’s slowly worked it’s way past my Fender Precision and Jazz and is now in a heated and sometimes spiteful battle with my Spector Legend Classic for favourite status.

I have a 1st gen V3. It’s a good bass. It will never be my number 1, but it’s a good backup bass or bass to use when I don’t want to take my more expensive bass .I don’t anticipate ever letting it go.

  4. I have a 1st gen V7 and each time i play it I’m thankful that I took the chance and ordered it online; I plan on it being a keeper.

Slow burn is a great way to put it. I imagined this bass as a placeholder, but the playability and the great tones have made it a favored instrument. I see why there are people who use the bass as a main gigging instrument:

That old devil midrange was messing with me at church today. It took about four songs before I could get the boominess out of my tone. Once I got the midrange dialed in, my V7 sounded fine, but situations like today are why variable midrange controls can be such a love/hate thing for me.

  8. It’s taken me a minute to warm up to it, but I’m super happy with mine. I was a passive Fender P guy forever. I’m still dialing in the pre, but the build quality is super nice for the price point. I did have to replace those Blade Runner knobs, but that’s just a taste thing. I ended up putting DR SS Highbeams on it. It’s a great halfway point between fingers and pick playing.
