Yup, it's there. The plate is just aged and blends-in with all the gooey-smokey-beer gunk on the back!

Man, I can't wait. I hope it's a good one. Looks like it has been around the block a bit!

If the plate is not there, could it have been knocked off? Is there another way to tell if it is a HD without having to pull tubes? Mine looks indentical to Groovers. Thanks!

Mine has two stickers on the inside showing the Power-amp tube layout, and they other showing the preamp tubes. One is stuck to the chassis, and the other is stuck to the preamp tray (screwed on the top part of the case). Both of those stickers say "SVT-HD" on them. I posted some pictures in another skunkworks thread, I think it's titled SVT-HD tube functions I think..

Also, if your amps face looks like the skunkworks, but the upper front part of the case is not cut at a slant, then it's the MTI version I believe.

There may some other key things to look for, but I don't know what those would be, maybe transformer numbers?

The plate could have been knocked off or taken off. There are specific features you can look for. If it has the black faceplate with white lines of the MTI era but has the SLM-style angled head-casing instead of the MTI-style cutout head-case then I'd say it's probably a Skunkworks, although it may have been an MTI that was put into a new box. It should also say made in USA by SLM on the back panel.

After the skunkworks SVT-HD was the SVT-CL if I'm not mistaken so there isn't much else it would be.

I found groovers other post with pictures. The tubes match up exactly, but the power tubes are not shown on the second JPG. It state 6 6550 power. Here is Groover's pic:
