Slight hum coming from pickup?

So, i just installed my new Seymour Duncan 1/4 pound Pbass pickups,
There is a slight, annoying hum in the back, but when i touch the strings it stops?
Also when i play with my fingers, it makes a noise, like a clicking noise almost?
How would i fix this problem?

are you bass shielded?

in almost all cases like yours (p bass, jazz bass, any other that has single coil pups) shielding the bass reduce the noise,it´s bassically cover all the wall cavities with a layer of copper ,all connected to one ground attached to your body check this https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=...es/Jazz_Shielding_Pictorial.doc&embedded=true

i have done it in my basses and everything is quiet now

I have the same problem, but I can only hear the hum when the tone knob is way up.
Still the same thing when I touch the strings, bridge or cable that is plugged in my bass, the noise stops (but can still be heard slightly).
