i'm thinking about using this in my stingray i want a sort of very present mid attack tone since i play punk.
is this the right pickup?

i used it on my former bass. well if you place the pickup just right on MM stringray's pup position, you'll get what they call "the best sound off MM basses". because it's got ceramic magnet, it has wide tone. but still it has powerful growl like MM basses have. actually i don't like MM basses's sound. so i sell it again, n buy a nice JB bass with NJ4 pickup.

I have had both the SMB-4d and SMB-4a and the "d" is far more aggressive sounding to my ear. I really liked it. the Alnico sounded soft where as the ceramic had a real tight bottom and cutting highs that were not harsh.

What don't you like about the stock Stingray pickup? There are a lot of MM pickup options out there (SD, EMG, Nordstrand, Bartolini, etc. etc.) and they all have their own flavor...
