Smelly Bass Case

I recently bought a used bass case. Problem is it smells like somebody dumped a 16oz. coffee into it. It's probably why it was so cheap.Needless to say, every bass I put in it smells like coffee. I've tried airing it out in the summer sun, but it still smelled awful. Does anybody know of an odor neutralizer that will work without making my bass smell like the product?

Coffee is better than cat piss, had a couple of those...

what’s the case constructed of?

for plastic backed I used a foaming carpet cleaner I got at wally world, it had a brush built in where is dispenses the foam.

a particle/wood case I would try a dry type first.

I think I will give the baking soda a try. It's a TKL hardshell case with the basic felt type interior. I do like coffee, but the smell of it in the case is not pleasing at all. Must have been what ever they used to lighten it, more than likely half and half. lol. I've never considered using an apple to get rid of of the smell. Might be worth a try. Thanks again for the ideas. I will let you folks know the results.

Yes, Coffee is much better than cat piss!! Have ever noticed that cats will immediately go and sit in an open guitar case??:laugh::laugh:

I'm afraid if I attempt that, it will be the end for the case. I'll have to get a new one, but maybe that was the intent. ;);)

Yeah I was just joking around. But you're correct, probably time for a new case. I bought a new hard case last year. It was this one. -

I believe I paid 150 brand new shipped, but dont remember where I bought it. Online purchase. Well worth it, imo

Here is a little fun fact- coffee has some of the same staining and odor chemicals as urine. So, pet odor or pet stain neutralizes often work on coffee too.

I used to clean carpet professionally, and if you get your carpets cleaned, there's a chance the tech might help you out for free. It can't hurt to ask. I worked with a deodorizer that was extremely effective, but the issue always is that it has to come in contact with the source of the odor. If the source has permeated the foam (which sounds pretty likely here) the only way to get to it beyond ripping the foam out is to inject the chemical into the foam, which can be done, but it might cost you because it takes more time than just a simple spray and walk away.

The Baking Soda worked surprisingly well!! When I vacuumed it out the material lifted and became unglued.:rage::poop:!!!! I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new case. I've been looking at some of the Gator cases. They have a soft and a hard case available. Not sure which to get. I think I will stay away from the TKL's though.
