I understand the fact that I was breaking the law. I did originally say I wanted to fight the ticket because of discrepancies, but later changed my mind and made it perfectly clear that I knew I could not fight the ticket and I simply want to avoid points.

I specifically said this thread was not started so I could be B*****d at about my driving. I will get plenty of that from my parents in due time, so I would appreciate it if people (not just you, monkee;)) would stop trying to crucify me and help me out a little bit.

Sure, I could "be a man" and send in payment for the ticket with no requests and take the 3 points and increased insurance, but that would be even more irresponsible than my driving. I am 18 years old, and I made my first mistake. While that does not automatically clear me of every charge, I believe that it does count for something whether anyone else does or not. Remember when YOU were 18 and probably did the exact same thing.

Ty, I've got to ask you (and be honest) was this the first time you drove 95 mph? If not (and I suspect it's not - how else would you know your truck is governed at 95?), I would submit to you that it's not your first mistake. It's just the first time you got caught.

BTW, I love the "speed demon" under your name! :D At least you won't lose your sense of humor!

If you're speaking of my first time at 95 for any period at all, YES. I have *hit* 95 before just to see what it would do (with parents in the car, mind you), but I have *never* driven above 85 for any length of time whatsoever. As a matter of fact, whenever the officer pulled me over I had to tap my cruise off; I still had my cruise set at 85 but I was just using the pedal to go the rest of the way.

Hey--I'm just hoping that my sense of humor will transfer over to my 'rents when they find out:D:D I just try to keep a positive attitude--I have finals for the next 3 days, so being bummed about a speeding ticket can NOT be at the top of my prio. list :(

That lecturing an 18 year old kid who's already confessed his sin is a lot easier than talking about the flaws in our great American system of justice (I say without irony), and that I find it disappointing that my fellow TBers show little to no inclination to turn away from the former to even acknowledge the latter...

Well, I can't agree,. I mean, I'm not really disappointed per se, if it were summer, you could do a total thread hijack with OT comments.

I'm mean, people LIKE to beat up guys for sins they confess. People post their sins KNOWING they are going to be abused over it. I think that, secretly, the guilt of not fessing up to the 'rents in ameliorated by a little flogging here.

Well, we could start a photoshop John Asscroft thread, with him standing in front of the nude statue of blind justice. That should wake'em up
and get'em talking about blind justice.

That could, at minimum, elicit a scathing, 'Why do you pick on my boys as a joke' email from Pimpride, ( 'cause theyz from Texas, dat's why ...), or create some other chaos that we thrive on.

What I find funny is how alot of people are saying "You were speeding, pay up" and they say it as if they have never sped before in their life.


Hopefull you can get your's cleared up. I got mine cleared up from defensive driving...the most boring 6 hours of my life

I only know it because someone who did it successfully told me. But it was three or four years ago, I don't know if it would work today.

I didn't get that impression at all. Me myself, I've gotten caught speeding twice in the past, both times I paid the fine, took the points, and moved on. "My bad". I did the deed, and I didn't try to "get out of it", or any portion of it. What makes this guy think he is better than the rest of us, anyway???? Just my take on it.

Well, "this guy" doesn't think he's better than anybody. "This guy" actually just cannot afford to pay an increase of ~$400 every 6 months on his insurance, so "this guy" is trying to find ways to avoid getting the points on his record so he doesn't have to get a second job JUST to pay his insurance.

Wow, kind of a small world. I got a ticket tonight. The officer was really cool though; he cut me a big break. Still sucks having to pay the fine though. Funny thing is, I'm usually a very conservative driver. I looked at my speedometer and saw I was speeding so I set my cruise. Unfortunatley, I was to late.

See, I won't go as far as to say I'm "conservative" because I know I'd readily be attacked by the people who can't seem to understand the whole point of this thread, but I don't *ever* drive as fast as I was that night. This guy didn't seem to care a whole lot. He had a good personality, but apparently he'd either been bored that night or somebody had pissed him off cuz he didn't care to cut me any slack. Don't guess I should expect it at that speed though::hmm:
