Like alot of members here I've owned quite a few basses, often 6 or more at a time, but I've now narrowed my stable down to 2 USA Cirruses. Just love how they sound, look, and feel. Soon to be in the market for a 5 or 6 string fretless USA Cirrus then I'll be set for life

I have to agree with what people have said so far, the USA Cirrus is an excellent bass. The only reason I'm getting rid of mine is because I got a Stambaugh 6 a couple years ago and my Cirrus 6 hasn't seen much action since. It's a shame, because it deserves to be played.

I just got my USA made, NOS Peavey Cirrus 4 today. I picked it up after playing a used model at a local store. This one has a flame maple top, maple/purpleheart neck, and maple fingerboard. It's incredible, particularly considering the cost. I also own a Peavey Dyna Bass (I'm guessing from the 80s-90s) and a Dyna Bass Unity Series Limited (with Kahler Tremelo, flame maple/purple heart satin finish neck, and a flame maple top/back).

As for Peaveys in general, they are very underrated. The lower end (in my day, the Dyna Bass) are extremely underrated IMHO. They play and sound great, especially at that price point, and can compete equally with anything that Gibson or Fender puts out there IMHO (I own Fenders, Gibsons, Alembics, Pedulla, Lakland, Sadowsky, Parker, Martin, Godin, Rickenbacker, Ovation and Musicman basses). You could certainly do much worse than buying a Peavey.

On the T-40 - man, it was heavy, but it sounded and played great.

Congrats on the CIRRUS ! It's funny. If you notice the there are a LOT of bass players who own mostly two brands of basses -

Peavey and Alembic.

The average player would say, "WHAAAAAAT ?????" That's apples and oranges.

I am also one of those guys. I think Peavey and Alembic make the best basses (for me).

Most Alembic owners I know own a Cirrus, too. I would even say that some have chosen the Cirrus as their #1

As far as your question on the maple fretboard, I'd take yor Cirrus to a local luthier and let a pro do it correctly.

I think the Peavey Cirrus is a great bass. I would hold out for one. Keep your eyes open. I will probably be is Saskatoon this summer... I'll give you a good deal on mine if I let it go. PM me.

They are one of the best 35" scale, 24 fret 5-string basses out there for the money. Very tight Low-B string when using a tapered string. The neck is very stable and can be set up for low super fast action.

I did change the pre to an Aguilar OBP3 to extend the top and bottom ends a bit and put a high mass brass Hipshot A bridge on and the tone bumped a way up not that it was bad at all to start.

The neck is really thin with two graphite strips for stability but not much adjustment if you do run into problems. The older Cirrus has a thinner neck. I shaved the neck of my newer fretless down a bit making it an as symmetrical neck to more closely match my older fretted one. The neck through design allows easy acces to the 24th fret even up the B string.

These are a very modern sounding basses. I personally like the walnut over the maple ones as they have a fuller, warmer tone that fit's into a band situation better.

I usually played a Modulus Q5 and was starting to get nervous that it was going to get lost or damaged as I was flying a lot so wanted to find a beater 5-string to fly with. I found a Cirrus in very rough shape for $650, cleaned it up, oiled the wood (what a difference) and did a few mods and it became my main bass until I stopped traveling. The Cirrus turned out not to be a beater bass but a gem in my collection! I just picked up a MTD 535 fretless and am in process of ordering another fretted one so I will probably let my Peavey Cirrus 5-string basses go now but they have been awesome and have served me well. The most under rated basses in under a $1000 price range out there IMHO. The Peavey Cirrus is the most inexpensive way to get into a boutique level, modern sounding bass IMHO. If you are a technique junky this bass will give you your fix!!! The Cirrus won't hold you back.

I got my first Cirrus a couple months ago and after getting some new strings on it and taking it on a few gigs, I am totally hooked. The USA CIrrus really is really that good.

As other have said, it has a very "Modern" tone but you can get surprisingly close to a P-bass tone with you solo the neck pickup.

The quality and playability are all totally top notch and the bass just has a "quality" feel to it.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon... I've got a Cirrus 5er with the flame maple over alder body wings, and purpleheart + maple neck. Its beautiful, it plays like a dream, and its got such clarity that I have to play much more cleanly than I used to. I love that thing to death. I put DR FatBeams on it, and couldn't be happier. It has excellent action. I hate this phrase, but its true here - the neck feels like buttah.

I got really lucky and picked mine up with original hardshell case for $600 off of Craigslist locally last fall. Its in really good condition... there's a few small dings but nothing worth mentioning really.

Prior to that I had (still have) a passive 4 string Millennium BXP. I got it with semi-hardshell case for $140. Put FatBeams on it too, and the tone just kills for a dirt cheap bass. Its a very good quality bass for the money - even for a good bit more money. The neck is excellent, very slim - even for a Jazz style neck, very good fretwork, no fret sprout. Very comfortable, good quality parts (IMHO).... If I was in the market for an inexpensive bass, I'd definitely be looking at the Peavey BXP models. I've also seen the older USA models going for excellent prices. I've played T40's and T20's but not some of the others, but I've been consistently impressed by Peavey's necks.

all these have just made me a proud owner of a USA Cirrus 6 i bought last friday.

no doubt it's heavier than all of my basses but it plays and sounds like a dream.

I'm very satisfied with the 2 jam sessions that i brought this bass to so far, i have a feeling it'll be my #1 very soon

Keep looking there are deals to be had. I picked up this unplayed NOS with HSC for $650. Some guy bought it had it for a couple of years. Said he played it for like 20 minutes when he 1st got it. Took the strings off and put it in storage...Then sold it... to me.

I've got a Cirrus 6 and LOVE the way the bass plays and sounds. It's fantastic. My only dislike is the dang gold hardware. I am not a 6 string player. Don't play chords and such. I'd love to have a Cirrus 5 string, but I guess the high C won't get in the way, just have to work really hard to mute all those strings.

I've had a Cirrus BXP 5 in the past. It was nice and played well. But I recently bought a USA Cirrus 4 from mb94952. Night and day improvement over my old BXP model. I'd say save up and get the USA model.
