So im debating about whether or not i should but a ukelele

I think itd be fun to have around, but my friend is advising me to not waste my money on one. What do you all think?

I'd get it; all the ones I've seen are pretty cheap, plus having a new instrument is always fun.

One school I taught in had a set of Baritone Ukes... same tuning as 4 highest strings of a guitar. Larger than the little plinky soprano ukes, with much more pleasant guitarish sound. i fixed em up and used em with 3 & 4th grade classes... liked it enough to buy myself a decent Hilo and have bought a set of Rogues at each of the last 2 elementary schools I have taught... for $30, they are great. I use mine quite a bit... helps when I am writing music, or just for sitting around, campfires, singalongs at church, etc... Go for it... (I prefer the baritones...)

Yep... $25 for this one (a Rogue... not quite as nice as a Hilo, or the ones that cost $100, but I have purchased about 50 or so for schools, and they work and sound good... I almost got 3 at christmas for my 2 kids and brother... At the very least, it would give you a chance to figure if you like and want a more expensive one...)

Why the debate? Just get one and enjoy. You gonna live forever? Plus, McCartney doing "Something" on a Uke is just crazy cool. I picked up an Oscar Schmidt version with actual tuning machines for $40.00. Many hours of fun for the dollar.

I've got an old Harmony that used to be my Dad's. Never really got the hang of that thing.

If you're still looking, consider an Applause ukulele (with or without a pickup).

Don't waste your time with something that costs $20.

I still have an old Recco uke (soprano, tuned up a 5th) that was my dad's. I learned to play it before I picked up the guitar. (Bass came first of course!) They're a blast to play, and it never fails to amaze people when you can play it.

I went mad the other day and got myself a UKe... + one each for my two grandkids... great fun... they love them... now I'm looking at getting a Concert or Tenor sized electro-acoustic Uke... my soprano Uke is a little tight on the fretboard for my fat fingers... and I want to explore some finger picking instead of just playing chords...

If you are going to get one, get one with proper machine head geared tuners... pegged tuners are (to put it politely) cr*p... hard to tune and don't hold tune well when tuned...
