I always thought “punch” is more of a feel thing, like when you can feel the attack of a note. You can feel all loud bass, but “punch” is when you can feel the sharp focused front end of the pressure wave slapping your chest.
Let's hear some examples. Is this punchy?
Punch to me means hi-mid presence
Huh, I think of low mids and/or upper bass when I hear 'punch.' Yes to fast attack, too, and I'll add fast stops as well, if we're talking amps and speakers. When I think of “punch” I think of relatively fast attack, mid presence, strong fundamental and a bit of compression.
Sure, if that's what it sounds like to you. Perception of tone is entirely subjective. All our ears (and brains) are different.
. fast attack right? that punch on the front end that cuts through the mix and then kind of decays...almost like a kick drum but fatter.
And thump or thud is low mid.Punch to me means hi-mid presence
But you see that is the problem. True communication relies on words having consistent meanings. We can’t define them however we like and have a meaningful conversation.Sure, if that's what it sounds like to you. Perception of tone is entirely subjective. All our ears (and brains) are different.
