So you thought the Bongo can't do Reggae ?

Hi beautiful people !

I thought I'd share a video with you featuring the bongo performing wonderfully in a reggae situation.

Hope you enjoy it.

Sound recorded and mixed in Nuendo 4 vía E-MU 1212m sound interface, further synchronized in Premiere 5.

Note: please forgive any mistakes. Been playing for only 2 years now. !

For those interested in the pickup and eq configuration:

Taking the knob detent point as a %50:

Pickup blend: % 75 neck
Bass: % 65-70
Treble: % 25
Low Mids: % 25
High Mids: % 25

The only time I tried a Bongo was in a music shop just after they first came out. Sitting in the shop, I was really impressed by the low end possibilities on that bass and would certainly choose a Bongo over a lot of other basses for a reggae gig.

Still haven't found better descriptions of the Bongo power than those courtesy of Bovinehost (a.k.a. Lord Bongo):

The dual humbucker model Bongo will:

- shave your cat while you're asleep.

- if left to its own devices, destroy large Japanese cities and fight giant, flying, fire-breathing turtles.

- insult retired people.

The single coil/humbucker model will:

- style your girlfriend's hair.

- talk large Japanese cities into destroying themselves.

- convince annoying retired people to move to Idaho.

Bovinehost (Bongo review on TalkBass) said:
Then you dial in that neck pickup and suddenly the first five rows are losing dental work and all cartilage turns gelatinous. Do not play this around sharks or rays. It\'s big, it\'s fat, it\'s a Bongo and you want one.
