Something I've wondered about for a while, but never thought to ask before ...
I had a '78 Fender P bass with a natural finish, basically just a clear coat over a sealer (I imagine). and after I had it a few years, it developed a soft spot in the finish on the back, right where you usually get "buckle rash", although it's not that as I have always worn suspenders, not belts.
The finish had softened to the point where you could scrape it off quite easily with a fingernail. Almost like someone had applied a weak paint stripper to it.
Any ideas what might have caused that?
BTW, I no longer have this bass.
