Some small noise from my '70's P

Hey all,

I recently purchased a 1978 Fender P, and it's awesome.

However, I noticed when I'm playing kinda loud, and especially when I turn the tone knob up, there's a weird hum like, I hope I'm correct with my description, weird noise.

It doesn't bother me that much as in a band situation you can't even feel it. But what about recording you know?

Anyway this is the first time I'm fealing with a real vintage passive bass, til now it was a Stingray as my main instrument. So I wasn't sure if it's normal.

Anyone?

No, that's not normal - my '76 is dead silent, whether it has the original pups in it, or S-D's SPB-1s, or Fender's '62 Originals... There's something going on with it, bud...

maybe it's just ground wire that's gone loose...

Could be - a quick check of continuity between the bridge and the jack will clear that up, and is always a good idea to check 1st when there's a noise problem...
