The following Fodera Monarch 4-string has been posted on eBay no less than five times in the past four months each time with a starting price at, or above, $6,995! Each time the auction ends without a bid. Wouldn't you expect this guy to realize that what he thinks his bass is worth and what the rest of the world thinks are two different things?!?

His price is pretty high considering that the bass has some nasty nicks in the back, IMO, but I think he has a shot at getting his price becasue Foderas are so hard to come by.

That said, if he asked for $4,000, it would be gone in heartbeat.:)

He has every right to keep trying to sell it for what he wants. It may seem a little high, but its not like the market has been glutted with used Fodera basses. They have a market niche much like certain models of vintage cars. A seller can wait for the buyer who really wants it bad enough.

+1. I would post it every few months and ask for a high (fair) price also. If he doesn't need the $$ immediately he can afford to wait. Someone will buy it eventually

Fair enough. Shops do it all the time. A businessperson usually buys a highend item knowing that it may sit for a while. That is why most stores only have so much of the nice stuff, and a bunch of the cheap stuff that will sell quickly!:D

My guess is, this being a 1984 Fodera, the seller is waiting for the right buyer. There is a very small market for this particular bass:

1. Interested in a very old Fodera (by Fodera standards).
2. Has the funds to buy one;)

It would/could be like me selling my 1978 Tobias (not gona happen BTW)... I don't need to sell it so I have the luxury of waiting for the right buyer to come along. If it doesn't, I keep it. I'd bet this is a similar situation and has nothing to do with listening to the market. Plus every potential buyer is not on eBay all the time.

I don't think the price is out of line for an 84 Fodera. With a custom thumbrest made by Vinnie. I also don't think the wear on the back is a deal breaker.

Not as bad as the guy trying to sell his 4-string Pedulla MVP from the mid-nineties in good shape a few months back for way more than a new one- he relisted a bunch of times, and was adamant about its value :D

The geek in me is looking at the circuit board. Theres a little red round part inside. I have seen this before in a headphone amp for high end on-location cameras...I'd like to know what that part is. The rest is normal stuff. wima style caps, metal fimlm resistors..blah blah..

7 grand starting...well...best of luck. I coulnd't own one...It would never leave the house. I'd guard it with an auto-shotgun!

I bought my 92 Anthony Jackson 5 years ago for $2500... an incredible deal at the time. I hadn't seen any Fodera regardless of age selling for under $3k back then... unless someone was really in a jam or didn't know the market. Didn't see any broken ones:smug:

Just saw your sig... was it a lefty? That would really limit the market.

No, it was my friend's bass, tho he is a lefty (that plays righty). He had me sell his Fodera and a very nice set of Moog Taurus pedals, which got him $1500. I told him not to do it, but he insisted he was done using those items.

Good points everyone, I never thought of it that way. You're right, he obviously doesn't need to sell and he is essentially just putting it out there at a number that he'd part with it at...

There is a dude who sells Modulii on the bay frequently. He has the same Q4 on there for God knows how long...same price everytime. He has a proven record of selling Mods so I guess in the long run it will sell. Doesn't cost anything to relist right? Only if you make a sale? obvious ebay newb here

hi, im an ebay addict, (+1200 feedbacks). i see this alot. they are waiting for a fool, or someone who has enough dough who doesnt care. many times i myself paid more than somthing was worth cuz i didnt want to wait another month for one to show up on fleabay. ive watched things 3,4,5,6 times and finally after they spent $50 on ads, they drop the price, a little at a time. i see the same thing in antique stores too. johnny a.

What are you basing your assessment of the bass' value on?

I have a lot of experience buying used basses and the idea that this be dismissed as someone waiting for a fool or money enough to not care seems like an uninformed assumption at best. As if the bass couldn't simply be worth it and the right buyer hasn't come along yet. That never happens... right?

I'm guessing we both know he gave that bass away.

In most cases you only sell an item once. Might as well get what it's worth the first time IMO.
