Generally, the unwritten limits of permissibility of word modification are informally taken to be defined by using a modified form of a verb (in a different tense from the previous song, e.g. die to died) or a modified form of a noun (plural to singular and vice versa, e.g. thing to things), unless the song features a single word which will obviously stall the game (e.g. I remember someone posting Kodachrome by Paul Simon a few editions back: you can't take the game forward unless you extract a word out of the song name, in such instances). I personally try to stay out of such modifications, unless someone above me has made a 'far-reaching' modification, and I set it right by restoring the word to its unmodified form.
Taking pie to form puppies is stretching it too far, I'd say.

I've done it 3 or more times, other people have done it, and I think that as long as the whole word is there in order, why not? I could've just found a song with the word "pie" in it, but instead I found a word that contained "pie". It's more interesting when you come up with something unexpected that still works IMO.

It doesn't work actually: you've got to use words from the previous songs, not letters. If you don't want to play fair, I can't force you to. To each his own. I'll try to play by the rules. Then, again, you can't object if you use 'pie' from 'puppies' and I subsequently respond to that with a song with 'puppies' as a word in it.
I'm thinking of PM'ing the original TS MikeyFingers and taking his opinion on this

But that's my point, I used the whole word, in order. Yeah, it doesn't sound like pie, or mean anything close to it, but I enjoy keeping it interesting. I wont argue with you about it, so if you guys are going to get so uptight about it, then I wont do it anymore. Problem solved.
