Sonic Farm 'Tantra' Demo

Hey all! I went into the studio with Boris and Zoran from Sonic Farm before the pandemic and played some demos they prepared to showcase the Tantra. There are blues, reggae, rock, funk, and jazz tracks for your listening pleasure!

Did a quick "scrub-through" -- will listen for real when I have some decent headphones (rather than laptop speakers) handy. Nice playing, though (particularly on the funk bit -- tight!).

I do recall your other post, now that you mention it. I did get to play through an older version of the Tantra (with a different power section, I believe) at a get-together some time ago, but that was it, I think. I do have a 2DI4, which I believe shares some circuitry and a basic voicing with the Tantra -- 2DI4 isn't a very "trad" tube sound, but has a nice note-envelope, good note-separation when you play chords, nice detail... I have run it straight into a poweramp before on a gig and, even with its limited tone shaping, it worked well.

BTW, the sound we're hearing is just from the DI, I presume?

Yep, you're hearing the DI. They had an Arnapol cabinet they mic'd up in the live room but didn't end up using it.

I think I remember Boris saying the idea for the Tantra came from the 2DI4. So many bass players ended up loving it, they decided to create an amp.

Another thread reminded me of this one -- took longer than I'd planned to come back and listen again but, on the bright side, I picked up better headphones in the interim.

Really nice playing throughout. I hear a familiar, subtle (and pleasant) coloration from the 2DI4, but it's impressive how far you can push that sound around with the EQ and the surprisingly useful and "non-effecty" harmonic generators and have it remain musical. Clear but fat where desired -- and different kinds of fat on each track.

To be honest, I had some concerns re. the earliest version of the Tantra, several years ago, but you make a compelling case for this as a versatile studio and live tool with a great basic sound and loads of control.
