Double Bass Sonores BoM

One thing I'm realizing is they like rosin, maybe due to the size. I use very little rosin with the Temperas. Just a swipe every few days. They are kind of the antithesis of Spiros or the silvery Temperas sound-wise. Big, thick, and dark. Trying to channel my inner Ibragimov.

Was planning on just going into full gut, but this set is interesting. What exactly are they made of? do we know?
I'd love to hear more - both jazz and classical - demos of them.

Ask Gerold for examples. He has plenty of them.

I'm looking forward to trying BoM set but his B-Roques are the best gut set I've ever used. His E and A synthetic strings match raw gut better than wound gut and seem to last forever.

Does anyone have any info about cleaning the BOM strings or other strings with synthetic casing? One great thing about these strings is they are super consistent sounding from E to thumb position G.

I asked Gerold about rubbing alcohol which he advised against. I would just hit them hard with a microfiber cloth. I would treat them like raw gut.

Do they speak okay in thumb position? Are they settling in with the bow?

Thanks. I'm still getting used to arco thumb position with them. They definitely sound more like guts than they do Spiros! They are settling in with the bow but I'm still in the exploration stage. For example due to their larger diameter the bow angles I'm used to on the G string with the Temperas have to be changed and now I'm ingraining it into my arm. Also they kind of squish so vibrato is different. Beneath the octave they sound incredibly resonant. I don't doubt they will above with the bow -- they already do with pizzicato. I'll try to post a sound clip when I am more comfortable.

pizz, it seems to make a very nice round actual gut-like tone. often the term "gut like" is way off, ie evah pirazzi sounds nothing like gut, and many other strings making this claim. Most people saying it i don't think ever actually played on gut.

can anyone comment on the longevity of these strings? my favorite aspect of gut is that it sounds new until it breaks. any idea what to expect from these?

I was wondering about that as well because the strings have a one year warranty, as opposed to the usual two. BTW they really like the 050 soft rosin.

He hasn't made this exact string very long. I assume it's similar to his other strings where they seem to get better as they age and it is common to get 5-7 years out of them.

One thing about the strings is they are the most consistent set across and up the fingerboard I've ever played. No drastic shifts in tone.

How’s it going with the BoM set? Did you get to make a sound clip yet? Super curious about these strings!

Still greatly enjoying them. I don't think I could go back to another string -- in fact I'm thinking of buying a second set so I know I have a backup. Have mastered getting a consistent tone about the second octave -- or conistent for me. Will try to post when I have the bass in a decent room for recording. The sound clips that Genssler has capture it well.

The eagle has landed. I won't put them on my bass for a bit but my BoM set arrived. They are beautiful and I am looking forward to playing them.

Just put a BoM g/d on my bass. These strings are awesome. Just a little thicker than the Helix g/d and the d string speaks well all the way up the fb.
More clear on my bass than a pistoy d string was.
Gets all the unique arco characteristics of a plain gut too except less nasally sounding.
