I have a little question.

Are Tower Of Power "Soul Funk" or "Jazz-Funk"?

Categories... Feh. They are cool. I think most fans would call them more soul than jazz. I just think that they're pretty fun.

I have always called them "Funk."

But they are certainly "Soul" at times.

I don't know what to call them! I'll just put them on, and turn it up real loud!

Cool! thanks for the help. Normally I dont care what kinda funk they are, I just do exactly that, put them on and turn it up! I'm doing a little research for my dissertation which is talking about the sub-genres of funk, and the bassists that I think define them! Just needed some peoples opinions

Given the two choices: I would agree.
Somebody like the Brecker Brothers Band or New York Mary or The Headhunters may be a better fit for "Jazz-Funk"
(some Swing involved, more angular heads, more improv, etc).
