Sound Help!

My rig currently consists of:

Ampeg 4x10 SVT Classic Cab
Ampeg B2R-E 450 Watt head

I run My Jazz Bass through a Sans Amp Bass Driver DI and then into my rig.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with either pictures or information on how to best attain getting a really smooth and consistent sound throughout all my notes.

Right now with me current EQ I am having trouble with some notes being somewhat louder than the others and getting a crunchy sound. ( kind alike amp distortion )

Does anyone use a similar rig and have suggestions to tweek my rig ?

I again would appreciate it and am looking for a sound similar to bands like: Cold War Kids, and Delta Spirit.

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Adding a pedal compressor &/or a pedal Graphic EQ might help. Tho IIRC the B2 has both onboard doesn't it?? Turn on the onboard opto compressor-this should even out yr notes-otherwise a decent pedal one will help HEAPS!!!! Graphic EQ can also help U obtain eveness across all yr freq's. Again- a pedal one MAY help- but the onboard one sgould help U lower sertain freqs & bring up others. A GOOD compressor will do the most to help U IMO.

I can think of a couple of reasons why some notes would be louder.

1. The closer a string gets to its pole piece, the louder it will be. I have found that keeping pickups adjusted as low as possible greatly reduces this effect. Think of how strings are fretted (the geometry of it relative to the pickups), and the reasons should be immediately obvious.

2. String set may favor one string over another with respect to inducing a voltage in the pickup. I've seen this a few times myself, oddly enough when the manufacturer's bass was strung with the manufacturer's own recommended string set. Try a different brand if one or more strings sound louder than the rest. FWIW, Rotosounds have always pleased me when it comes to output evenness across strings. But I haven't tried everything. (Not even close.)

3. It's been said before on this board, but it bears repeating: pickups should be adjusted so string-to-polepiece distance is identical when all 4 strings are held down at the same fret (say, the 12th). This is where the Jazz is at a huge disadvantage -- it can't be done since the pickups are straight. Even more of an argument for #1 above, which will help the E and G not overpower the A and D.

I agree that a compressor can mask a lot of these problems. Magic-In-A-Box. But I prefer to go after root causes, rather than compensate for them down the signal chain. Probably the tinkerer in me.
