Has anyone ever tried the Sound Shaper SSB Preamp, from RJP Enterprises?

It's kind of a unique one, with a digital interface/readout.

Quite inexpensive too -- $130 for the basic model. It has 5 fixed bands of EQ.

I emailed the guy, and the input impedance is 1Mohm -- which is high enough for many piezos pickups (though maybe not all).

The sound samples online sound just fine, but you never really know about these things without firsthand experience. So I'm hoping someone can say something about it.

Here's the website:

Sorry for all the bumping, but I'm finding it hard to believe, with all the crazy gear hounds on TalkBass (like me!) that someone here isn't intrigued by a preamp for DB pickups that has:

5 bands of EQ
with great coverage in the crucial mids, (where amps usually lack):
Low: 60 Hz
Low-mid: 125 Hz
Mid: 250 Hz
Mid-High: 500 Hz
High: 1 Khz

and is small and light enough to clip on the tail-piece.

Anyway, even if no one else has experience with it to share, I think I'll take a chance and pick one up.

pbasswill,
I did see a short article on this device in Doublebass Magazine (now out of print). I would only be interested in it if you could run it directly into a power amplifier. I also wouldn't want to mount it into the after length since I have a compensated tailpiece. MIght be the greatest thing out there, let us know.

Thanks for your post, Ric.
The guy has been quick to answer email, so I've asked him if it can drive a power amp, and will let you know (here).

Yup, I'll definitely check back in with my opinion of it.

I just received mine in the mail and i can't say enough good things about it. It takes a whole three minutes to figure out how to use and get a killer warm tone. It doesn't color the original tone as it only enhances it. The price is right and I love the touch sensitive buttons. I know this is simple but you simply have to plug it in to turn on and it auto sleeps to save on battery time if you walk away for awhile.

Please feel free to contact me if you want to know more. I swear on my beautiful bass I'm only promoting this product because I'm so grateful for its existence.
