I just joined today and this is my first post. I have played bass off and on for 30 years. I've owned Danelectros, Hofners, Rickenbackers, Alembics, and Steinbergers. I've been playing my Geddy Lee Jazz Bass since 2004. I want to pick up a P-Bass. I've read hours and hours of reviews about Fender P-Basses and feel that I'm now pretty knowledgable about all versions thereof. Question: Are MIM P-Basses really that bad? I'm thinking of getting a Standard P-Bass mainly because of the low price. I'm also thinking about getting a Matt Freeman Squier P-Bass. Those who know firsthand, which is better and why? I can't advise you on which is better, but I can say that the MIM I own is nice. I don't know what the majority are like, but I can say that good MIM's definitely exist.
I've never had an issue with my MIM Standard Jazz, and I've played plenty of MIM P's that sound great. That being said, Squier is putting out great stuff these days and it won't put as big a dent in your wallet.
My MIM P is nice too, but I had to do some searching to find a good one so don't settle for just the selection in one store. I see a lot of negative things said about MIM Fenders but I think mine plays and sounds equal to or better than a lot of the MIA Fenders I've played.
