Speaker brand mismatch question

Ok , I’ve got a homebuilt cab with two peavey BW 15s 8 ohm drivers.

One is blown, I have access to a freebie 15” eminence also in 8 ohm. I know that even though they both may have the same rating, there could be a variation between the two brands.
.
Can i mix match the speakers and come out with good results? Or should i look for another BW basket?
Thanks!!

Unless the cab is properly engineered, it probably won't make too much difference, IMO. :meh: And there are a lot more variables and indications of performance than just the power ratings of the drivers. Having said that, you're going to be better off with another BW driver, but be aware there are a number of variations of Black Widow drivers. Try to match the part number of your specific BW speaker.

What is the speaker enclosure like? Sealed or bass reflex (vented)?

Good question.
It was a copy of a twin speaker peavey, that fell off the back of a 50 mph truck and busted the cabinet all to heck. So a new duplicate was built in a pro’s woodshop. It worked great for several years then a voice coil went out. So…
That’s where i am at the present.
Btw, it is vented just like the original

Then yeah, definitely don't mismatch the drivers -- find yourself a matching Black Widow.
This is my cab but not my pic

Looks like the two drivers share one acoustic chamber. The drivers need to match, otherwise as power is increased one driver will dominate and both will be destroyed.

It's going to be very easy to spend way more than this cab is worth.

There are lots of different BW variants.

Yes, I agree about spending more than it’s worth but this is a “house” cab in It’s easier to repair than to replace.
So…
