Speaker change in ear candy bass bomb

Hi there, this is my first post. I have an ear candy 212 bass cab I bought on craigslist 8 or so years ago. After a bit of research on this great site, I discovered that 1. I’m glad I didn’t order one of these new 2. It wasn’t designed very well. My question is has anyone put different speakers in one of these cabs, redid the ports and had good results? Or are there speakers that would work in a 3.17 c.f. box? It currently has 4- 2” ports 4” in length. Thanks

IMO, by the time you got done with the project, you would be farther ahead to sell it as is and buy something you can already listen to, that way you know what you are actually getting by listening to a variety of cabinets.

Good used cabinets can be a much better value.

Thanks for responding. I agree with you, in fact, I recently bought a used genz benz uber 212, for a very fair price, that far outperforms the ear candy. I previously reused/reconfigured an old Traynor 215, using johnk’s 215 build and eminence’s cab specs as guidance, with satisfactory results.I thought perhaps this cab could be a candidate, but it may be throwing good money at a bad idea.

I can’t see really coming out ahead compared with good used cabinets, plus there’s the unknown of not knowing what you will end up with voicing-wise.

Presuming is works as is, you should be able to get a couple hundred dollars for it.

That’s a fair point. I could easily spend twice what the cab is worth, not like how it sounds, and not have the cab be worth anymore than it is now. Thanks for the reasoned advice. I’m realizing that you may have designed the genz cab I bought, and the tt800 amp I’m using. I have a question in regards to that combo, if I run the tt800 at 2 ohm it will put out 600 watts to the 4 ohm genz212. How does that affect the damping? Thanks again for your time.

Yes, I designed your Genz cab.

When driving the TT-800 into 4 ohms with the impedance selector at 2 ohms, the damping factor increases and the rated power decreases to ~600 watts.
