Speaker OHM Total?

Ok, im sure there is someone on here that can tell me what to expect here....Im wiring up my 4x10 cab. I have 2 -16ohm drivers and 2-8ohm drivers. I also have a tweeter(its 8 ohms). What will the total ohm be for the whole cabinet? Im having to mix and match for various reasons that dont really matter. Either way, ur help would be greatly appreciated TB!

You can wire in series or parallel. Most people wire in parallel. + to+ to the connector, and -to- to the connector. So, two 16 ohms speakers in parallel =8 ohms. 2- 8 ohm speakers in parallel = 4 ohms, or half the amount. Do it again, with both sets and your total is 6 ohms. That is OK. Just never go below 2 ohms or the lowest ohm rating for the amp. Take a ohm meter and measure between the + and - before you try it. It should be close to 6 ohms. You can pull up parallel wiring of speakers up on Google and it will give you pictures. Enjoy!

A mess, I'm afraid. You cannot combine different impedance drivers without sending too much power to some and not enough to the others. And a tweeter requires a crossover. 'Mixing and matching' is a bad idea.

I was thinking that myself....but didn't know if hooking them all together would help some. But of course diff speakers in the chain would react diff(especially with speakers having a different resistance)....I thought from the beginning that the whole weakest link saying might eventually come into effect here. The strain would be more placed on the drivers though than on the amp if I decided to hook them up?

This info is wrong.

The ohm total would be 2.67 ohms.

Yes, you will definitely need a three way crossover to make the ohm load right. Yes, and mismatching speakers without one will send more to some speakers, try taking one paralleled pair [8 ohm]to the mid output, and the others [4 ohm] paired to the woofer output. Since they are tens, one set will handle your mids and one set will handle lows. The tweeter to the high. [missed the tweet, no coffee yet] Just be careful and measure the total load at the main speaker terminals to be safe. The 4 ohm paired woofs will be more efficient than the 8 ohm mid pair. Don't blow your amp, if you have to get a pros help.

I guess I will give you guys the full story....im mainly bored at work anyways.

I bought a 4x10 Mesa cab. I tried it out in this big metal warehouse and the whole place was shaking. I put my head/ear up by the speakers and didn't hear the speakers giving out. I decided to buy it. When I got it home, I noticed this unmistakable rattle. The stock EV's had been replaced with 16 OHM Kappas (Eminence), I figured it was just too much wattage for the cab to handle. upon further investigation, and to my disappointment, the top of the front baffle was splitting from the enclosure, basically flopping and rattling against the top on the cabinet. I could hit the top-front of my cab and could hear it flex, rattle.

So, at first i decided to take advantage of what i got (the guy wouldn't give me my money back). I took the 2 "neo" speakers out of my Avatar 2x10 (come to find out they were loaded with Deltas, I always thought it was too heavy for a Neo cab, bought it used). The two Kappas sound great in the 2x10 cab... I bought some titebond III and some angle brackets last night...I think this might fix the problem but I wont be able to tell till the glue sets for a day and I load the speakers.

now im left with 2 Kappas (16ohm) and 2 Deltas (8ohm) and a cab that will probably be fixed. but now its looking like I will have to buy two more drivers and sell two and its just looking like a pain in the but. I personally didn't like the low end response of the Deltas in my Avatar cab.

Any advice? I guess it all depends on whether the cab gets fixed.
