what specific upgrades were made? Does anyone know? Basstovsky?
I ask because I have a Legend 5er inbound, which I want to upgrade.

I was thinking Aggie DCBs, Super Singles or Nordstrand dual coils, with either OBP-2 or Tonepump.
I want something to sound quite different from my other 2 (EMG PJ/Haz, and EMG-JJ/BTC)

Does the inbound bass have EMG HZs? IMO the Aguilar DCBs weren't very different from the EMG HZs. A slight low mid bump and a top end cut, but the tone was pretty identical. Plus the coils aren't splittable, so I ended up putting the HZz back on my bass because they were splittable. YMMV

I can't speak for the Nordstrand but I don't think the Super Singles will fit right in the EMG 40 route. Both the Tone Pump and OBP-2/3 are great preamps. I would suggest the EMG 40J's or 40P's if you go with active pups.

I had the same thought about trying something different with my Legend the other night and was questioning my dealer about a few things, I already have the Aguilar OBP3 so was thinking about a Tonepump with active EMG pickups but then I just played a show last Saturday with it and started thinking I should leave it alone....I'm glad you guys are talking about this because I want to learn from your choices!

Hey guys, I have a situation that has me a bit concerned and I need some additional perspective from people who would understand.... you.

So here's the situation. Last week I won an auction on eBay for NS-2J. The seller has zero feedback, but he's part of the Spector Facebook club and, based on his relationships there, I put faith in him and looked past the zero feedback. I sent payment on Thursday and Paypal is showing funds not accepted by seller. I've tried contacting him via eBay messaging, via Facebook messaging, and then last night via text message (he posted his cell number for people to contact if interested in buying it). I saw he read my facebook message on Saturday. All of these attempts (7 in total) and not a single response.

My gut tells me the auction closed at a price he doesn't want to honor so I'm being ignored. Have any of you experienced anything similar? I've had over 350 positive experiences on that site and never anything like this. I don't know what to do at this point.

Make sure you provide feedback on eBay so that others see the negative experience you had and think twice before falling into the same trap. One thing that is great about eBay is that negative feedback means death to sellers. One guy jerked me around on something a few years ago, and I provided negative feedback. He offered all manners of bribery to get me to remove it. That told me that people really do take reviews to heart.

the inbound bass is the SSD pickups and TP jr. so I've already tried that stock, and didn't care for it much.

I view anything as an improvement.

So it comes down to "something different". I understand the EMG 40s J or P suggestion, but its somewhat redundant with what I have already on other basses. That leads me to investigate some other pups. And yes, I'm investigating what sizes will fit, in particular. I don't want to invest in any routing on this bass, just electronics.

This is a good call; my fiance and I do a lot of business on there; it's pretty important to maintain a 100% ish feedback rating if you're under a few hundred transactions a week.

Gary, I'm curious, you have a pair of P pups paired with the Tone Pump in another bass? And on the Super Singles I think the pup will fit in the route, but I imagine there'll be unsightly gaps.

I got the EMG HZ and B30 preamp in this one and I probably need to line the routing area with copper tape and fix or clean a volume pot unless you guys find a killer set-up....

EMG 40P's get my vote...but Seymour Duncan just put out what looks like a tasty set of exposed pole passives that have the same routes as EMG 35's and 40's. :D

So this morning was my maiden voyage for my new Euro 4LX in a worship setting. I was a tad late for set-up (5 min) and the 1st thing I notice, no guitar. OK, bass, drums (and a sub at that) & piano.....No worries. I quickly set-up (Bass>M5>BDDI>FOH) and nothing but a buzz.....Now the WL is looking at me like great, new bass that doesn't work. I played it the night before so at most I thought, dead battery. Check, it's good. I finally change locations on the platform, hook up DI and BAM....Spector tone. I had to be careful not to dig in to much, but it sounded soooo clear and focused. Thanks again to Jay for letting go of such a great bass.........Now I just need to find a good rock band so I can grind away......:bassist:

Sorry for the crappy cell phone photo, I'll post so good ones next week-end.View attachment 449828
Glad you are diggin it. It's a great bass,

I'll start by stating I've never owned or played a Spector before. I've been reading this thread for a while and even looking in the classifieds for one. I figured a Euro 4 would do it and I almost pulled the trigger a couple of times, but didn't. I've had a bass for sale in the TB classifieds and I get a message from a TB member Carlton(Bassmanc) about a possible local deal. I travel from Albany to Catskill, NY to meet in a fast food parking lot. We make the deal and I'm happy. I sold my bass which I wouldn't have expected anything more. Carlton had actually implied a Forte 5 trade which I would have been all over, but really want a 4. Turns out Carlton is an endorsed artist and is heading to the Spector shop and says he may be able to do something for me. We head over to the shop and I met Stuart who is as nice as guy as one could be. He gives me a nice tour of the shop and we chat for a bit. It turns out he had a Forte 4 SS Helium (weighs 8.5) that didn't have a ship to destination yet. The bass plays and sounds awesome so of course I had to buy it. I would have been happy plucking a used Euro from the classifieds. Thanks to Carlton I walk away from the shop with my first Spector directly from the man himself. I actually missed my exit off the NYS Thruway thinking about what had just a happened.

You are part of the family now!

Hi guys, update. I heard from the seller of the auction and, sadly, he was in a bad car accident over the weekend. The bass was in the car when it was totaled and he doesn't know where it is at this point in time as he just got out of hospital. So, best wishes for a speedy recovery and for a bass still in one piece. (I did cancel my paypal payment this morning so I have my funds back).
