I was using Ernie Ball Todd turned me onto the Cobalt strings plus he also gave me a set of Spector 603 strings to try, very impressed with both of his selections...when he asked what strings I wanted I just said you pick for me so I could see what his favorite was in the Ernie Ball selection, I think we had been talking about the Spector 603 set when he offered some to try when I was there to pick up the Coda. Jeff turned me onto the DR Hi-Beams and said that these could do for me what the Ernie Ball Cobalt can do, he was right and I found they are perfect on the Coda and Fender P-basses....broken in sound right out of the box! But...the string chase shall continue because someone will say, dude you got to try these!

Now with my new Euro I was thinking of trying something different. I don't want to completely loose the familar growl but would like to trim off the highs and mids just a bit. I still have a huge interest in the GHS Presssure Wounds. I kind of prefer low tension. Anyone try anything like that or close to it?

I use the GHS Pressure Wounds on my P Bass and love them. I've considered trying a set on my Spector's but my gut tells me they will be too mellow. I've tried a lot of diffferent strings and always go back to DR Fat Beams.

Yea, I don't want to loose that Spector roar too much. Just a little less bright would be nice with big fat warm bottom. I have my Jazz for mellow stuff.

I know what you mean. I have a drop tuner on my P/J NS2, and when we go into the solos in Highway Star I flip that lever and start grinding away on that low D and it Rocks! :thumbsup:

Interesting. Anyone know who Spector is sourcing the 603s from? Are they rebranded La Bella's made to different specs? The tapered winding on the E & B seems to suggest they are. But La Bella isn't the only manufacturer that can do tapered windings on the lower strings, so....?
