Thanks a bunch! I found the details on the EMG website. I must have missed it earlier. I'll just need to add a bypass switch and tone control.
I'm thinking of going the Sims pickup path. Part of me leans toward the DGTC, but another part of me is concerned that the tone capsule may be too much color.
My heart is in 70s classic rock, but right now I play a lot of worship music. So I feel I need some clarity in my tone. I can add some color with a pedal when needed. And worship music is primarily covers, so I need some versatility .

I primarily play worship music with my Euro-5JJ DGTC Bart passive pickups and that bass has become everyone in our band, church worshippers and when I played at the Big Ticket Festival, favorite bass. It's so very diverse when dialing in which ever tone you want. I have no problem with dialing in a clean tone. What we here for sound samples is most usually dirty or colored a lot because that's what most bassist want to play. Although, our sound engineer loves the Big full clear sound of my Forte 5 with 18V HAZ and 40P neck and 40DC bridge. If you're after a very clean clear big tone then I'd recommend the 18V HAZ.

Like Michael said, the DGTC is very diverse. Most of my basses have the DGTC, along with Lindy Fralin pickups (P (standard wind) at neck, and split J (+10% overwound) at the bridge). I like the sound I get because it works better with the music we play, which is mainly classic rock.

For sure. Even though my NS2 was 9v it was always the live bass because it cut through like nothing else. Guitar players would point to the Spector and say can you play that instead? No problem.

When our band was rehearsing our songs for the Big stage at the Big Ticket Festival last summer I brought in my former NS-2 "Goldie" with 9V HAZ and my Euro-5JJ with DGTC to see which one that my band mates preferred the tone of better...they preferred the Euro-5JJ best but it was a very close margin, they said the Euro had just a little bit more grit and heftiness to it...both solid maple bodies, same strings DR Pure Blues...only difference was pres & pups. I was quite taken back by their choice and kinda disappointed but our lead guitarist owns and operates a music studio and our pianist is world reknown accomplished pianist, so I trust their ears 100%.

Mine apparently was the first Guard Red bass out of the Kramer factory SN# 1234. A big ol baseball bat neck and played like a Les Paul. Gold Hardware, 9V Haz, Emg's. I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about her.

And, yeah... I purchased mine NEW, in '87. I've only owned 2 of my "current" basses longer. The first, which was/is my FIRST, that I got, in '82 shall remain nameless, as I don't wanna get into any more "trouble"... Time for a drink.

I thought you were going to write him back wanting to know what is wrong with kids today. We're all joking. I bought the NS2 in 1989 used at Steve's Music in Toronto for 2200 with a killer flightcase. Still have that. All tight ready for another Kramer. It has to be Kramer or older so I'm trying to save some serious money. The only reason I sold it was to buy a (real) 1960 stack knob, then sold that for a 59 strat. It's a never ending story. I was in Steve's the day they got their first Ns2 as I remember was winter 81, but I could be wrong. There was 20 guys standing in a circle ooohing and ahhhhing as John the bass guy was playing harmonics and saying..wow listen to that. Memories.
Yes that is the 78 stingray, it's the SECOND best bass I ever owned. I can post pics if you like in the Stingray5 forum. Give me a sec I'll post a pic of the of the NS2 with my 70 SVT and first run Hartke cabs. Is it ok to say Ampeg/Hartke here?

The only bass I've owned this long is a 74 F****R P-bass. It didn't have much vintage value but I love it. I really like the a-width neck and is kind of rare.

You bet it is. But in 1996 I didn't think it would and the stacknob did. Wasn't a total loss. Later I grabbed one of the first two quilted NS2-O's but it had an extremely thin neck and wasn't the same for me. I would buy 1234 back in a second, mortgage the house if I had too. I'll post a pic in a minute.

I'm stoked to be opening the show Friday night for a band called Saga, that I've been a big fan of for years. Any Canadian members here will know all these acts. Los Lobos and Don Felder obviously need no introduction.

And... if You really wanna puke, I got my NS2-A, at ABK Music, a little, privately owned, now defunct shop, for $400.00. No case. I purchased ALL of my "stuff" there, back then. The owner, "Amazing Bob Kasha (ABK)", was a friend of Mine...

And... if You really wanna puke, I got my NS2-A, at ABK Music, a little, privately owned, now defunct shop, for $400.00. No case. I purchased ALL of my "stuff" there, back then. The owner, "Amazing Bob Kasha (ABK)", was a friend of Mine...

Yes 85, that's why I was specific about buying it used. When I asked about the price of a new NS2-J I was told 3 grand I literally almost choked. Well, that's almost as good as a Trace Elliot V6 for 200 + tax. I don't think anybody can top that one. And that was last year. It was 299 but I had a 30% off card. I don't think the manager was in that day.
