The low A would be a bit much for me too. But some guys like really low notes. I rarely go below D even on my fiver.Or the A brown note

Jeff, which bass were you using for the drop tuning with these songs?
I'm using the NS2. I've been using the NS2 mostly for pick playing and the NS5XL for finger style playing. But I've mostly been playing the NS2 for some time now. I'm just really digging on four string basses now. Can't wait to get FortReSS.

Also, I only drop the E to D on the organ and guitar solos.
All of that & wiring up the output jack on the BQC I installed. I've been putting it off, for no good reason. lol Then I'll be 'Boppin' again.

It definitely was. Luckily, Owen's a great luthier & keeps a clear head. I got frustrated by it a couple times.
Now That's a great savings...but loss if a LOT of time playing your ReBop.
Let's see. I noticed the truss issues in September & took it to the first shop immediately. I didn't get the bass back until early December, after they had lifted the fingerboard & told me that there was no way they could repair it for inside my budget. It was a couple weeks later that Owen agreed to work on it for me but it would have to wait until a contracted job he had, building display cases for a client. He started work on it near the end of March & is almost done, now. He's been great to deal with, even if the timeline is a bit long, due to his day job & contracted commitments.

Oh yeah, I love my Spectors tuned to A! My band plays in drop A so I usually have two of my 3 set up for A. What gauge strings do you use to drop it that low?

This is the 1st Rex I've seen with PJ pups. Beautiful, almost too pretty for a Rex which I feel is more of an aggressive rock machine. Maybe some Webster blood splatter......[/URL]

I rarely play below the D&C low notes, once in awhile low B, but for the Easter Cantata I'm playing in tomorrow morning I thought it could use it as I'm playing the organ part, plus it would setup a better playing pattern but I couldn't take it lol :nono:

Recently I'd thought about going back to playing mainly 4 strings but I know I'd miss my 5 strings. My wife kindly reminded me 
how I had went back & forth with this before and sold my Forte 4 because of my decision. Wives...they can make so much good sense at times.

I used to drop tune A a few years ago and I was good with it.

When I first went to fivers I sold all my four bangers and didn't touch another for almost 20 years. But after I bought that NS-4CR from Jim (j.kernodle) on a whim I fell back in love with the lighter weight, thinner and shorter neck. Just had a lot of fun playing it. I think I'll always have a fiver around because sometimes that's just what I need. I'll be putting some different pups in the fiver to shake the tree a bit on tone.

Yup, the solos in Highway Star ride on that D and it sounds much better on the dropped D (big and deep) than on the A string D or open D. As the chorus hits it's peak and holds on the high A, I just reach over with my right hand and flip the lever and boom, low D for the solo.

We also decided on our next two songs to learn. They'll demonstrate our eclectic nature. AIC - Them Bones and Rush - Red Barchetta.
AIC is a great drop D song with cool harmonies and Rush is, well, a rush to play.

Red Barchetta is a fun song to play, we have covered it for so long that we moved it to the hold position for Limelight and we also moved Distant Early Warning to hold for Tom Sawyer....except, we always get a request to play Red Barchetta and can't seem to let it rest! lolWe also decided on our next two songs to learn. Ok, since Purolator decided to be closed today (despite what their website said) and not deliver my computer case, I was without a project. So, I wired up the output jack on my ReBop w/ BQC. That was not fun. The leads EMG gives you to splice are WAAAY too short for where you need to solder to. Hopefully it works. If not, I'll have to take it in and have a pro do it. Either way, 1 step closer to being ready when my neck is done.All of that & wiring up the output jack on the BQC I installed. I've been putting it off, for no good reason. lol Then I'll be 'Boppin' again.

I'm not into the Rex model that much as well but Todd does have some design talents and this is also the first one that has my attention, Todd knows a lot about setting the basses up and even the electronic options....We will get to witness these talents at the Spector Hang (hope we don't give him a big head now...lol)!!!!!
