Not real surprised here since you have that refin SS.Just a heads up guys, I'm going to be listing my new Helium Forte SS for sale.
It's amazing, but after discovering that there are very minute tonal differences between it and the standard SS I've decided to place an order for another Spector (Lee's 2P gave me some ideas) instead of keeping dual SS's in the the stable
Thought I'd mention it here first before listing it in the classified's, PM for club price

Proud owner of the doppleganger. Sorry for the crappy photo. I verified the pickups and preamp: DC35's + HAZ. As you guys said, it is an exact copy. I will wait on Jeremy's serial number. That aside, this thing kills! Sustain for days!

They remind me of hi beams.
They feel like a chalkboard which is nasty. However, I have a kawai bass that I put Neons on a few months ago. The feel got a lot better after a few days, I think the oil in my hands lubed it up a bit.

If those are indeed two separate basses, with near or consecutive serials, and considering the flame pattern is pretty much identical, I think we have to consider that the Czech shop is doing some undisclosed Photo Flaming.....

Yep. I have a set of 45DCs coming for the Legend 6 already. Once I get the bass here tomorrow I'm going to start scheming a way to get a US18v HAZ pre in it. It's either that or the tonepump, which is no slouch but that 18v is the bomb, till I can get a bass with a US9v in it
It's something fender and other dealers did back in the late 90s on certain instruments.
They'd basically take a photo of a piece of wood and then take a thin, transparent film/wrap and print the grain on it. They'd then apply the film/wrap to the instrument and finish over it. Generally they'd put the flames on a piece of wood that lacked a distinctive grain pattern.
I doubt Spector would stoop to that on instruments like this, but I agree the pattern similarities are uncanny.
It would REALLY suck if the Euro factory was doing this without Spector's consent, but again, doubtful.

Fender called it Foto flame.... easier to get unfigured wood, they were up front about it and I always thought it was cool. My thought on the Euros are maybe the cap is thinner than we realize? the flame is identical to my eye.

I am still wondering about the fretboard grain being identical as well!?? I have pretty good eyes and they are the same from what I can see, so this is a little more of a complex issue than just photo flaming, cause you are not going to be able to do that with an open pore piece of wood!! Somebody look at that photo of both......if its not the same bass...it is a COMPLETE clone, and I don"t think that is possible.
No problem! Used to read a ton of Guitar and Bass mags when I was starting out back then, and they advertised them pretty heavily. Always remembered them because they seemed a little cheesy.
Yeah Fender was very vocal about the process. It'd be super weird if Spector was doing it on the DL.
