Well, I just got caught up on this thread, I was down 10 days with Covid and didn't feel like doin' nothin'! Anyway all is good on that front, beyond the outright exhaustion I never felt like I had anything more than a cold.
I've been using Planet Waves Hydrate for nearly 10 years and I have had great success with it. Cleans and treats the fingerboard. Interesting that someone posted a link to Sadowsky's site. When I went looking for the stuff originally no one seemed to have it in stock except for Sadowsky so I bought it from them. Roger recommended the stuff back then until he switched to whatever it is he uses now.
I've heard real honest to god lemon oil is fine but most products sold are not really lemon oil at all.

Unless you're playing in situations where a lot of bodily fluids are flying around and getting on your bass (my condolences or congratulations depending on body fluid) the matte finish is not something to worry about too much. Common sense and regular suggested care should get it through your lifetime and then some. That was Stuart's goal with all these things. But buying a second Spector is never a bad idea for unmarried men.
Ha ha ha! I have been loving the single life and getting things I want now before I get locked into relationship jail again. Be nice to find a Spector - playing wife but I don't know any women bassist near me. I love the finish on the gloss Spector's but if I had one of those I would want the matte finish. So I just need to buy both I guess...
This could be really a lot more dangerous than I thought! O wow... So....... I saw a neck "butter" brand cleaner. That is probably dangerous too? Glad they don't have banana oil OMG!!! We need to demand warning labels on all guitars and basses immediately!!!!
Idk .. I copied that off the Sadowsky link that was posted on here. I should of copied the whole paragraph which read - The most commonly used product and the one to NEVER USE is any kind of Lemon Oil product. Lemon oil products are basically mineral oil with lemon color and fragrance added, along with chemical drying agents. Although the fingerboard will look beautiful when first applied, the drying agents will eventually dry out the wood more than if you had never oiled it in the first place..... Not trying to over think anything, but I do want the best for my bass and this doesn't sound like the best.
Yes I know. I read the Sadowsky thing. I still think it's pretty hyperbolic. I'm also not telling you that you have to use lemon oil. I just don't think it's really that big of a deal either way.

Cool, thanks. I used it a few times already. Mine has the bees wax in it too so I'm told in sealing in the dirt too lol. Everyone tells me my basses are the cleanest they see, so I'm not too worried.

Seriously though... It was ebony and it's greater tendency to crack that made me really care about what I treat my fingerboards with. I know the MusicNomad oil has been used on a Stratavarius, and is reasonably priced so that's what I went with. There're many different ways to go here and most are just fine. Although, if any oil leaves a residue it won't send the bass back to the factory, but it will be a big time string/tone killer though.
As far as I know, the dire warnings about Lemon Oil came from people saying they used Lemon PLEDGE on their guitars, not Lemon-scented mineral oil.
It drove some luthiers crazy.
Yes, Lemon Pledge has drying agents in it along with silicone abrasives (some versions have buffing resins). That stuff should never be used on a guitar of any kind, finished or unfinished.
Lemon scented mineral oil is perfectly fine, as long as it doesn't have silicone or buffing resins in it, or drying agents. Likewise, Orange Oil is ok too, as long as, once again, it doesn't have any of the whacky stuff in it.

My matte black finish is getting glossy where my thumb rides above pickups and where my palm leverages for pops. Back of the neck too.
It's part of it but it's my favorite finish. Never clean it with anything other than a damp cloth is my understanding.

I will stay far from Lemon Oil.
Boiled Linseed oil is even worse. You just look at the rag the wrong way and it self-ignites.

That's a nice headphone amp! I looked it up and it's a high quality computer USB interface as well. Well done!
Nice. I have the first model (HA-1) and it works really well - exceptionally clean, noise-free sound.
Pricey, but it's built like a tank, sounds fantastic as a headphone/music amp (especially with my Sennheiser HD 600 and 580s) and as mentioned, can be used as an interface for recording.
