I think my OCD allows me to love it... I am the kind of person that notices things that are uneven/crooked or unmatched - I've gotten up from a table at a restaurant to fix a painting that was slightly crooked because it wouldn't allow me to eat in peace
. So the straighter, more uniform, less "blobby" current shape suits me. But I still like the older shape, too. I think the current Euro with the skinny/slanted horn really bugs me the most.
Although, I could see how some aren't bothered or don't see a difference. If you just do a search for Spector NS2, the shapes are kind of all over the place and you see some older NS2s that look close to the current Euro shape.

So I just tried an SS 2 5 string locally. The action was crazy high and to my ears it just didn't sound all that great. It didn't have that punch I'm used to hearing along with that woody tone.
That being said I'm really thinking of throwing down on a Classic 5. Maybe one day upgrade to the 18 volt HAZ.
Yeah, crap action, dead strings poor set up can sure make a beauty instrument souls like poo. Honestly when I got my NS5XL I didn't understand the hype… set up and new strings made it very clear to me why these things are so bad ass.
I would love to get a classic 6 string

since I received my forte 6 I've been really struggling with keeping it. For financial reasons and I feel like a greedy hoarder some days. I've got a fair amount tied up in 5 string basses and I always go for a 6 string. But… I. Just. Can't. Post. It.

Thank you, this baby turned out absolutely amazing! It sounds HUGE, with such a great GROWL!!!! The Haz & Nordstrands sound fantastic together. Same here with the walnut, I have always loved the sound & look of walnut.

Been a Spector guy since the mid 80's.
Own/owned USA's on down.
Not only never paid attention to it,
but couldn't care less now that it's been pointed out.
Now, get off my lawn and quit talking about how horny your basses are.
Unscrew the thumbscrew several turns. It's used to tune the string in detune mode and you've given the device no room to function. Using the view in the video just turn the thumbscrew towards you. You'll see how it works then.
The small leg on the lever should bear the pull of the string in standard/resting mode. The thumbscrew will bear that pull by resting on the allen screw in the lever in detune mode.

I set mine to D and C.
It almost 100% eliminates my need for a low B string.
Plus, being able to bounce off an "open" C or D,
rather than having to reach down to fret it,
actually has certain advantages over the B string.
On the extremely rare occasion I actually need a B (or lower),
I just kick in my Digitech Drop pedal.
I would shorten the neck to 21 frets (where the 24th fret currently is) while simultaneously shifting the bridge back toward the bottom (bringing the nut closer to the body effectively shortening the neck for the same scale length). This would solve the upper horn not at the 12th fret issues and the perceived extra reach to first position. I don't need 24 frets (I never play that high anyway) and I think it would solve the #1 complaint by most people and why they move away from Spectors.
I've never heard anyone complain about the tone, the comfort of the body, the craftsmanship, or the quality. It's always "the reach to the 1st position". I actually thought about it the other day while playing my white Euro. Shifting the bridge, and therefore the nut, about 2" back would make a big difference to that reach. I think it would be interesting to play one built like that. That's the one and only change I'd make. I wouldn't miss those 3 frets at all.
