My feeling is that you'll need all the different finishes and pickup configuration of both four and five string models. My feeling is the best way, but perhaps is lacking in economic balance.

I love mine. I have used it every show since I got it last year. It is still stock.Anyone gotten their hands on one of the new limited edition aged Doug Wimbish models? Either the amber PJ or the white JJ...I hear them whispering my name, and my trading fodder basses are getting nervous...

Looking at this it's telling how much Stuart had to do with the design of the NS, even though it's named after Ned Steinberger. Sure, Ned shaped and refined it into the beautiful (and perfect) shape we all love and gave it that curve in the back, but the basic shape is there from the beginning. Had Ned designed his first bass completely from scratch without seeing this, it would have turned out MUCH differently.
This is such a great example of two people combining their talents and creating something that was probably better than anything they later created on their own.

That's REALLY mapley. I guess Stuart likes 'em with a bigger booty than Ned does, judging from the ass end of the SB1.
I just purchased a used Spector Performer 4. There is no info on the back of the headstock, no serial number, place of manufacture, nothing. It doesn't appear to have been sanded off, as the finish is still there. Is there any other way to tell when and where it was made?

Thanks. I know the fit and finish is great. It plays and sounds great. It has a fantastic set up. Action is really low with no buzz. It has held perfect tune since it was delivered by the" Brown Truck" on Wednesday. I am just glad it was in a had case because the box was pretty much destroyed. Also had very little in the way of packing materials but all is well.
Probably your best resource. Your bridge is an aftermarket Hipshot.
Makes me wonder if the tuners are also.i think the Performers I have seen in the wild all have black hardware. I may change my volume and tone knobs to chrome so everything matches. Thanks for the info.
The tuners look like Gotohs. The factory ones have cheap plastic bushings. These don't.
I guess with aftermarket bridge and tuners kinda eliminate 2 weak points on most "budget basses". The pickups sound great. It has stayed in tune since Wednesday. With the way our temps and humidity have fluctuated, I am happy.

The googles say that EMG SSD pickups were from the mid to late 90s, Korean and early Chinese manufacturing.
Thanks for the info. I have found a lot of conflicting info so that why I asked the people that would know or know where to look.

Somebody here knows. The knowledge base in this group is rather preposterous.
played the 5-string euro through my new mini pedal board set up with the ToneX and my trusty Warm Audio DI. The GK800 capture in the ToneX is legit. Great sound all around. Also sounds really good with the Aguilar DB750 and DB751 captures. I can't believe what that micro pedal is capable of.
Hey guys been awhile since I've posted but I'm selling one of my Spectors. It's my 2020 NAMM US NS2A in White Spector. She was built modeled on Stings bass.
