Spector Legend 4x (Thunderbird)

Hi all. Long time bass player, new to forum. Getting back into playing after an extended absence.

I've played mostly Jazz basses in the past and can't really afford to go that route at the moment. I ran across this http://cgi.ebay.com/Spector-Legend-4X-Thunderbird-/250775006360?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a635aec98, and fell in love with it. Always loved T-birds and the paint scheme does something for me. Prolly a love it or hate it for most people but it works for me.

I'm mainly a blues player but have no idea which way I'll be going in the future. Just trying to get a start, again.

If anyone if familar with this bass your input would be much appreciated!

I liked it so much I bought it, thanks for the link man!

Just kidding.

Seriously, if you would like this, I would say, and this is just from past experience with Legends, you would be better off with a regular Legend, which is a fine instrument for the money. Why? Because the body shape of the Legend is the most ergonomic and comfortable you can find, period. This may look "cool", but so does BC Rich but if you've actually tried to play it, it's not so great.

So the specs from what I read are pretty much the same as a regular Legend EXCEPT this has a maple body where last I knew Legends were basswood, but you will find the regular style a lot more comfortable than this.

Just my 2 cents.

I haven't played a maple body one either so I can't compare, but my guess is you probably wouldn't hear much difference. This has a quilted maple top and the older and newer Legends have that, so the only difference would be basswood vs maple in the body. Both woods from what I've read seem to do best on the upper mid-range, which is what the Legend excels in, so from that, and knowing Spector and that they would focus on rock/metal for this, my guess is you wouldn't hear much if any difference. But I don't know, just a guess.
