Spector vs. Fender - Help!

Hey there,

I'm looking for a 5 string bass that is very versitile and reliable, though I don't have a very big budget. I was thinking about getting either a Fender Standard Jazz V, or a spector performer 5. Any thoughts?

Completely different monsters. One's active, one's passive. I've never liked either of their B strings and have found them both to be floppy, but between the two I liked the feel of the Fender better.

Do you have a chance to try either?

Funny, seeing as how most peoples' opinions af the Spector B string are phenomenal, namely the Legend and Euro series.

P.S. 35" scale, so unless you were tuned to A, I can't figger it out.

Being that my experience with Spector B's have spread from the Performer series, Legend series, and USA Bolt-on's, I guess I'm really picky about B string tension.
