HAS ANYONE SEEN A RECENT SALE PRICE FOR AN ORIGINAL 1ST SERIES SPELLBINDER?
These bases were never intended to "make it".....It was predetermined by business partners Stanley Clarke and Tom Lieber that 50 Spellbinders would be cast in 1980 and then the molds destroyed to preserve their value. These basses are composite cast in compliance with patents held by Lieber that pre-date Steinberger and were so far ahead of their time. To play one is to understand how truly amazing they are from their incredibly thin but rock solid structural design to its nutless roller headstock design with zero fret. 26 years later, the Spellbinder II arrived with solid spruce body, maple neckthru and ebony board. Almost identical in size and shape but without the use of composites. Much more mainstream but also great basses. There was one at BassNW a few years ago. I wish i bought it. I think is was selling around the $2000 range. If you call Chad at The Bass Shop in Seattle, he could probably give you a better idea. They are nice basses that never made it.
