Spending $2,000 for a bass?

So if Joe messed up how he put the main bearings into the engine block my basic matience skills are to blame?

All I'm saying is that is HIGHLY unlikely to happen on a regular basis. Failures on parts because of the actual manufacturing process happen, but it's not usually the fault of the operator.

Besides, that's why they have warranties.

EDIT: This is pertaining to cars, not basses.

After making the same thing for 50+ years for the same company there is absolutely no excuse for sloppy workmanship and sub par components. If so, you don't care about what your doing or your product and should be avoided like the plague, even if the piece is inexpensive.

On the other hand, a high dollar piece should have the highest level of craftsmanship in its construction and have above avg components to the best available. It should be as close to flawless as tolerances allow. There is no reason for it to be anything else.

Everything matters. From the wood stock, to the very first rough cut of the lumber , to the routing , finish application , to final assy, and most of all the final QC check. The buyer should need to do nothing except set the instrument up to their personal prefrence and enjoy.

It happens quite often. Check any vehicle for recalls. Most are known as technical service bulletins. Errors during the assembly process are the main culprit.

TSB's don't occur because the operator is pissed off at his girlfriend. They occurred because the engineer that designed the build process didn't calculate correctly, or the part was found to be suspect well after the fact.

Majority are for improperly installed parts. Bad designs ( Monday morning engineering) , and parts flaws (monday morning manufacturing) as well. Someone screwed up somewhere at sometime.
