Spinal Tap bass lines

Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by The_Ryst, Jul 14, 2005.

  1. I'm not talking about Derek Smalls, but the music in the movie, what bassist played those? I hate to admit it, but I LOVE a lot of those lines. I'm buying Smell the Glove tommorow (hehe) soundtrack. I mean, they're just GOOD. Help please...I'm guessing some studio musician.

  2. You would be wrong, Derek Smalls did play those bass lines. The Actors are very good musicians as well as comedians and played their own instruments. Im not sure if they wrote the songs or not though , they might of...........

  3. Hmmm....Dude, I see where the overdubs are wrong and **** in the movie at times I think. Who recorded the soundtrack then?

Harry Shearer has been known to be a great bassist for a while now, plus writting many of his own parts... playing upright in 'A Mighty Wind'... and oh yeah a pretty funny writer too

  5. Yeah, he was the gay fellow in Mighty Wind wasn't he? Great movie! :D

Not sure if he was entirely gay in the movie, but I know that he found out that he wanted to be dressed as a woman, by the end of the movie... :D

A friend downloaded it from Acquisition - it was on the BBC in the early 80's, they were a regular comedy troup. These kooky guys came out with a heavy metal band spoof movie 1 year before this is Spinal Tap came out - me thinks Reiner and the boys ripped these guys off. Any UK'ers seen this stuff?
